Work through the steps
Before the season
Record the crop, field and planned activities. Obtain prices for seed, inputs, labour and transport. Confirm timing and farming methods with a local agricultural adviser.
During field work
Record each cost as it occurs. Separate payments made from amounts still owed. When rainfall or other conditions change your activities, update when you will need money too.
At harvest and sale
Record the harvest quantity, buyer, price and money received. A sale agreement does not mean payment has arrived. Use actual records when preparing the next season’s purchases.
